Stefan Pasiakos from US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine investigates that an active military personnel who consume a high protein beverage about 10 gram protein as essential amino acids containing about 1.87 or 3.5 gram leucine while doing workout on a stationary biycycle.
Therefore in both the studies, post exercise muscle protein synthesis was assessed. It has been found that consuming large bolus of whey protein immediately after completing exercise increases muscle protein synthesis compared to the smaller does of protein consumed after workoute.
It has been found in second study that muscle protein synthesis was about 33 percent greater after the consumption of leucine-enriched protein drinks compared to lower-leucine beverage. Therefore it was a great difference. Researcher’s further state that muscles metabolism can be manipulated after exercise by conducting dietary means.
Therefore it is best to take protein immediate after exercise as it helps body muscles become strong and relax. On the other hand leucine also plays important role in stimulating muscles growth in the post-activity recovery period.
It has been found that individual who is an athlete therefore he usually do muscle-building workout there it increases the dietary protein needs. For this individual who is an athlete can go for high protein drinks which are specially prepared for athletes. Moreover muscle-building, aerobic workout like distance running also burns some protein for energy. Therefore it becomes very important for almost every athlete to have adequate protein intakes.
